Home Insurance

Home insurance is split into two types; buildings insurance and contents insurance. At Upperton Advice, we only offer five-star Defaqto rated insurance.

What is Defaqto?

Defaqto is a leading financial information, ratings and fintech business. It's unbiased product information, provided as 'star ratings' helps consumers, financial institutions and financial advisers make better informed decisions. For over 25 years, Defaqto’s experts have been collecting up-to-date information on thousands of financial products. By researching and analysing every product on the market, they’ve created an easy and reliable way to compare them.

Buildings Insurance

Having a suitable buildings insurance policy in place is a condition of a mortgage contract. Buildings insurance covers the cost to repair damage or rebuild the structure of your home. Garages, sheds and fences are also covered, as well as the cost of replacing items such as pipes, cables and drains. The insurance should cover the full cost of rebuilding your home, and should also include the costs of demolition, site clearance, and architect fees.

Buildings insurance does not cover the items inside your home such as carpets, furniture, clothes and personal items. You will need contents insurance if you would like to insure these items.

Contents Insurance

Having contents insurance is not a requirement of a mortgage however, it is highly recommended. Contents insurance covers the cost of replacing or repairing your possessions if they are damaged, lost or stolen. For example, in the event of a fire a contents insurance policy will allow you to replace or repair your belongings. Typically a policy would cover things such as carpets, furniture, curtains, appliances, valuables such as jewellery, bedding, clothes and more. Each provider will have a specific list of what will be covered and just from the short list above, the replacement costs could be thousands.
